Belgium's solar capacity grew by 17% in 2021
Global Data, a London-based consultancy, recently predicted that Belgium is planning to phase out nuclear power by 2025. Electricity data for 2021 released by transmission system operator Elia Group shows that solar, wind and gas will play a big role in replacing the controversial power source.
In solar, Elia reported that solar capacity rose 17 percent last year to 4.64TWh, up 9 percent. Solar plants generate 4.7TWh of electricity (some of which has been exported). Elia, owner of the 50Hertz project, supplies 5.1% of the power mix to its customers in Belgium and Germany, up from 4.3TWh in 2020. However, this represents a 5.2% share of Elia's power mix compared to the previous year. There was a slight decline in solar energy.
GlobalData forecasts that Belgium will achieve 11.8GW of solar capacity by the end of the decade, exceeding its target of installing 6.9GW by 2030. (News from guangfu.bjx)
