Italy sets the price of electricity shared by the energy community at €0.11 per kilowatt-hour
The Italian energy community will receive a special tariff for all shared electricity in renewable energy systems of up to 200 kilowatts.Excessive power could be pumped into the grid without payment, which might encourage members of these communities to try to conserve energy.
After introducing new rules for the energy community in March, Italy last week launched an incentive plan to encourage the adoption of the new rules.
The Italian government has identified two categories of producers to be covered by the new rules: energy communities and self-consuming collectives, whose members will share electricity at €0.11 and €0.10 per kilowatt-hour, respectively, for 20 years.
Self-consuming collectives are groups of electricity users located in the same building or building complex, while energy communities are larger entities that can also include businesses or public organizations located in the vicinity of generators.
Incentives for renewable energy systems up to 200kW allow excess power to be pumped into the grid without payment, a move expected to encourage the deployment of batteries.There is no bill charge for self-use electricity, but there is no direct incentive.The indirect incentive is a avoided electricity cost of between €0.13 and €0.20 per kilowatt-hour.
These requirements require all participants to be connected to the same low-voltage substation.
Italia Solare, the Italian trade association, predicts that the new scheme, combined with the so-called "super bonus" -- a 110 per cent financial reduction including for renovations that not only improve energy efficiency but also increase rooftop photovoltaic systems -- will further boost the market for rooftop photovoltaic."At this pilot stage, it is difficult to assess the data associated with the growth of the energy community," a spokesperson told Photovoltaic."Of course, issues related to collective consumption that have remained unchanged so far are likely to accelerate."
