Japan's Tokyo Metropolitan Government requires new homes to be fitted with solar panels
The Tokyo Metropolitan Council has voted to amend a regulation that will require new homes in Tokyo to be equipped with solar panels from April 2025, the Asahi Shimbun reports. This is the first such regulation for new individual homes in Japan. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government also plans to make effective use of the large number of building rooftops to develop solar power projects to reduce household carbon emissions.
The cost of installing solar panels is around one million yen, which the Tokyo Metropolitan Government calculates will pay for itself within 10 years through household electricity use and the sale of excess electricity. However, some customers are still concerned about the burden of the installation costs of solar panels. In response, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will introduce a rental subsidy policy to ease the financial burden on homebuyers. (News from guangfu.bjx.)
