Morocco plans to meet its 2030 renewable energy target five years ahead of schedule
At the recent Middle East Green Initiative (MGI) summit held in Saudi Arabia, the Moroccan government stressed that Morocco will actively implement its commitments under the Paris Agreement and formulated a comprehensive strategy to achieve low-carbon economic development by 2050.
As a result, Morocco's new government has raised its target for renewable energy development, aiming for renewables to make up more than 52% of the country's energy mix by 2025, five years earlier than previously.
According to preliminary projections by the National Directorate of Water and Electricity (ONEE), based on projects already launched or under implementation, the share of renewable energy in Morocco's national electricity will reach 42% in 2022, 52% in 2025 and 64.3% in 2030. It can be said that from 2025, renewable energy will surpass traditional fossil energy as the number one source of electricity production in Morocco. The government also raised its target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 to 45.5 percent from 42 percent. (News from guangfu.bjx.com)
