Morocco's solar capacity is expected to approach 3 GW by 2028
Morocco's solar capacity is expected to approach 3 GW by 2028, says European Photovoltaic Industry Association
Morocco is expected to reach 2.97 GW of installed solar capacity by 2028, according to a new report from the European Photovoltaic Industry Association.
The report notes that Morocco's solar potential is strong, in part due to the country's high solar radiation intensity and large amounts of available land. The report also mentions that Morocco's ongoing energy sector reforms have opened up much of the market to private investment.
The report makes recommendations for expanding solar applications and urges Morocco to continue liberalizing its electricity market to attract private investment. The report also calls for increased funding for grid infrastructure and incentives to expand the scale of battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The Moroccan government has set a goal of making renewable energy account for 52% of total installed capacity by 2030. As early as 2009, Morocco proposed a solar plan that expected to achieve 3 GW of solar installed capacity by 2025 and 4 GW by 2030.(News from: www.pv-magazine.com)
