2025 Will Be a Critical Year for Indonesia's Energy Transition
The Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) in Jakarta said 2025 will be a critical year for Indonesia's energy transition, which has fallen behind targets in recent years. The agency seeks to shift fossil fuel subsidies to renewable energy and urged the government to implement a clear and measurable plan for the upcoming national energy policy.
The latest IESR report also pointed out that Indonesia has not fully utilized its huge solar potential. The report said that Indonesia has an average daily solar irradiance of more than 4.8 kWh/sqm and a solar power generation potential of between 7.7 TW and 20 TW.
According to the Solar Outlook report released by IESR in October, Indonesia's installed solar capacity exceeded 700 MW earlier this year. The report pointed out that there are currently 16.92 GW of solar projects in the pipeline across the country.
