4.6 GW. The world's largest photovoltaic project is under construction in Brazil
Brazilian company Omega Energia is developing the 4.6GW Kuara Solar Park in the state of Ceara, Brazil. After the successful construction of the project, it will be the largest photovoltaic project in the world.
Recently, the Ceara State Environment Committee discussed the issue of granting an environmental permit to the park, which will be postponed until December 1. The project will use 8 million solar panels, the manufacturer of which has not been disclosed. It will cover 7,800 hectares of unused farmland between the cities of Arakati and Ikapui.
Omega will sell some of its power generation to Australian iron ore producer Fortescue to build an industrial green hydrogen plant at Port Pessom, about 200km from the solar park, according to local media reports.
Brazil's photovoltaics reached 21 gigawatts, halfway between centralized and distributed generation, and already account for 10.5% of energy.
To date, two of the world's largest photovoltaic parks are under construction in China, the first being a 3.3GW solar park being built by Huadian in Qamdo City, Sichuan Province, and the second being a 3GW solar installation also planned for Zhongwei in the Hui region of Ningxia.
