The US has started a review process for the imminent expiration of its 301 tariffs on China

Xinhua News Agency reported that the United States is likely to remove the 301 tariff on photovoltaic, which may be a measure of inflation in the United States. The two actions of the "Section 301 investigation" tariffs imposed by the United States on Chinese products (including photovoltaic modules) will end on July 6 and August 23, respectively, and the relevant tariffs may be removed.

The United States' tariffs on domestic PV are mainly 201 and 301, with a cumulative 40% tariff of 15% (201) and 25% (301) for single-sided modules produced in China, respectively.

The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) announced on Wednesday that the two actions that resulted in the imposition of tariffs on imports from China four years ago under the so-called Section 301 investigation will be completed on July 6 and August 23, respectively. Effective immediately, the office will initiate a statutory review process of the relevant actions.

The office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) said in a statement that it will inform representatives of domestic industries that have benefited from the tariffs on China that the tariffs may be lifted. Industry representatives have until July 5 and Aug. 22 to apply to the office to maintain the tariffs. The office will review the tariffs on the basis of the application and maintain them during the review.

The US government will take all policy measures to curb soaring prices, US Trade Representative Maggie Tai said at an event on Tuesday, indicating that cutting tariffs on Chinese imports to the US will be considered.

The so-called Section 301 investigation stems from Section 301 of the US Trade Act of 1974. The clause authorizes the United States Trade Representative to initiate investigations into "unreasonable or unfair trade practices" of other countries and to recommend unilateral sanctions to the president upon completion of the investigation. The investigation was initiated, investigated, adjudicated and executed by the United States itself, which has strong unilateralism. Under the so-called Section 301 investigation, the US imposed 25 percent tariffs on imports from China in two batches starting in July and August 2018.

The US tariff measures against China are strongly opposed by the US business community and consumers. Due to the sharp increase of inflationary pressure, recently the US domestic calls for the reduction of tariffs on China have been renewed. Us Deputy National Security Adviser Dalip Singh said recently that some of the tariffs imposed by the US on China "lack a strategic purpose". The federal government could lower tariffs on imports from China, such as bicycles and clothing, to help curb rising prices.

Us Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen also said recently that the US government is carefully reviewing its trade strategy with China, and it is "worth considering" to remove tariffs imposed on Chinese imports.

The spokesperson of China's Ministry of Commerce said earlier that the unilateral imposition of tariffs by the US is not good for China, the US and the world. As inflation continues to rise and global economic recovery faces challenges, we hope that the US side will bear in mind the fundamental interests of consumers and producers in both countries, remove all additional tariffs on China as soon as possible and bring bilateral economic and trade relations back to the normal track at an early date.(News from guangfu.bjx)
